For more than 40 years, Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, Montana, has housed one of the largest permanent collections of historic and contemporary art of Glacier National Park. The museum’s permanent collection holds more than 800 artworks, 5,000 photographs and negatives and 3,000 titles in its library.

Through a Murdock Trust grant, the museum was able to install art racks to improve the long-term conservation care of its collections. This has aided in its ability to preserve the artwork for future generations to enjoy. It has been hugely beneficial in day-to-day activities and has increased the museum’s ability to serve its community through events, programs and exhibits featuring these works.

During the summer of 2017, the museum launched its internship program. Two college-age students worked frequently among the art racks and gained valuable experience in collections management, education and exhibit planning. Internships are important to future museum professionals, and Hockaday is thrilled to provide collections management experience with these art racks as part of its internships.

We applaud Hockaday Museum of Art for preserving the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park for generations to come.
